Serum Oestradiol Request

Hormone replacement therapy may be in the form of an oestradiol implant which is a small pellet made up of crystals of oestrogen that has been inserted under the skin. These crystals dissolve slowly to release the oestrogen hormone directly into the blood stream. An implant of 100 mg will usually last from 15 – 18 months at which time the patient will begin to experience symptoms of oestrogen deficiency. It is important to check the circulating serum oestradiol level in the blood before a further implant is inserted and this can be done through a blood test.
