Epidural & spinal anaesthesia

Many of the procedures in obstetrics and gynaecology can be performed under ‘regional nerve block’ so that the patient can be awake and yet not feel any pain. The vast majority of elective caesarean sections and also most vaginal surgery can be performed under a spinal block. An epidural inserted during labour for pain relief can also be utilized in the event that a caesarean section should become necessary.
